how to make outrigger pads?

UHMWPE or HDPE materials are usually used to make crane outrigger pads because they have excellent compressive strength, wear resistance and weather resistance. The following are detailed production steps and precautions:

  1. Preparation
    Required materials
    Sheet: UHMWPE (recommended) or HDPE
    Recommended thickness: 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm
    Size examples: 400×400mm, 500×500mm, 600×600mm, 800×800mm
    Handle rope or lifting ring (optional)
    Metal bushing (for lifting hole)
    Anti-slip sticker or engraving equipment (optional)
    Required equipment
    Precision sawing machine (band rail saw, circular saw, band saw)
    CNC machining center (for drilling, chamfering, engraving)
    Electric drill (for opening holes)
    Chamfering machine or grinding wheel (for trimming corners)
  2. Production steps
  3. Material selection and cutting
    From the whole UHMWPE Cut the required size from the plate;
    It is recommended to use a CNC saw to ensure neat edges;
    Example: Cut a 1000×2000mm plate into 4 500×500mm leg pads.
  4. Chamfering or rounding
    Use a chamferer or CNC to chamfer the four edges or make R corners (such as R=10mm);
    Prevent bumps and cuts during lifting, and improve appearance and safety.
  5. Punch holes to install handles
    Usually, a hole with a diameter of 20–30mm is opened in 1–2 corners to insert a nylon rope or install a stainless steel handle ring;
    A metal bushing is added to the edge of the hole to prevent long-term wear and tear;
    The hole position is recommended to be more than 30mm away from the edge.
  6. Engraving/marking (optional)
    Use an engraving machine to engrave the brand name, tonnage, size and other information on the surface;
    Reflective stickers can also be sprayed for night construction.
  7. Anti-slip design (optional)
    Anti-slip texture can be engraved on the surface, and anti-slip rubber pads can be attached to the bottom to improve ground adhesion.
    III. Quality inspection suggestions
    Test items Requirements
    Surface flatness No warping or deformation
    Hole strength No cracks, neat edges
    Thickness error within ±1mm is preferred
    Compression resistance 20–30 MPa or more (depending on the purpose)
    IV. Usage suggestions
    Crane tonnage Recommended size (reference)
    5–20 tons 400×400×40mm
    20–50 tons 500×500×50mm or 600×600×60mm
    50–100 tons or more 800×800×80mm or customized larger size
