When moving ultra-high molecular polyethylene (UHMWPE) sheets, a safe, reasonable and damage-free method should be adopted according to their size, weight and handling environment. The following are standard handling and moving recommendations for sheets of different specifications:
. Conventional handling methods
- Manual handling (suitable for small size/thin sheets)
Applicable sheet size: thickness ≤10mm, size ≤1m×1m
Use gloves to prevent slipping and scratching;
Two or more people should work together to lift and transport to avoid sheet sagging and deformation;
No single person can curl the sheet, otherwise it may cause breakage or stress deformation. - Forklift handling (suitable for large size sheets)
Applicable sheet size: thickness >10mm, or size ≥1.2m×2.4m
There should be a wooden pallet or flat support board under the sheet;
The fork teeth need to be padded or flat to avoid scratching the sheet surface;
Multiple sheets can be tied with straps to prevent slipping during transportation;
Pay attention to the balance of the forklift, take off and land slowly, and avoid sharp turns or sudden braking. - Lifting and handling (oversized or heavy plates)
Applicable to plates with a size of ≥2m×3m or heavier plates (such as plates with a thickness of more than 40mm)
Use sling + hook (or clamp);
Vacuum suction cup sling (industrial standard) can be used;
Use four-point hanging or balance beam lifting to maintain balance and prevent bending;
Do not directly tie the edges and corners of the plates with wire ropes, which may easily tear or scratch the surface. - Precautions during transportation
Item Recommended practices
Anti-scratch protection The surface of the board should be covered with PE film/cloth
Anti-slip Use anti-slip mats or anti-slip tapes to fix when stacking
Transport with the board face up Try to avoid placing the board “vertically” or “warped” and keep it stacked horizontally
Avoid deformation due to heat Avoid long-term direct sunlight during summer transportation
Binding and fixing Use nylon belts + soft cushions to fix the edge of long-distance transportation to prevent sliding or damage - Recommended special handling tools
Flatbed trolley (small batch indoor short-distance transportation)
Hydraulic lifting platform (loading and unloading inside the workshop)
Vacuum suction hoist (efficient and no damage to the surface)
Multi-function plastic board handling clamp (can be used for side clamping)
