how to secure ground protection mats

how to secure ground protection mats
Fixing ground protection mats is the key to ensure that they do not shift, do not warp, are non-slip, and have more stable load-bearing capacity. The following are commonly used fixing methods and usage suggestions:
I. Common fixing methods

  1. Connecting pin fixing method (pin connection)
    Applicable objects: multiple protection mats are connected, suitable for heavy machinery traffic areas.
    Method:
    Each mat is designed with a connection hole at the corner;
    Use metal pins (steel/galvanized) or high-strength nylon pins for perforated connection;
    Some systems use “cross pins” or “H-type fasteners” to fix 4 pads at a time.
    Advantages: high strength, fast installation, strong resistance to tensile displacement.
  2. Ground nail anchoring method (ground anchoring)
    Applicable objects: soft soil, grass, mud, etc., to prevent the entire pad from shifting.
    Method:
    Use steel ground nails/screw piles/U-shaped piles to directly insert into the ground;
    Hole is opened on the edge of the pad and nailed to fix it in the soil.
    Advantages: windproof and anti-skid, especially suitable for outdoor activities, sand, mud, etc.
  3. Fixed frame or limit strip
    Applicable objects: the overall limit of the mat area is required, such as event venues and wedding lawns.
    Method:
    Install wooden or plastic frames/limit strips around the laying area;
    The mat is laid in line with the inner edge to form a fence to reduce the sliding space.
    Advantages: beautiful and safe, suitable for temporary facilities or pedestrian areas.
  4. Anti-skid structure design
    Applicable objects: laid on hard surfaces such as cement, asphalt, and tiles.
    Method:
    The bottom surface of the mat adopts anti-skid texture or embedded rubber anti-skid strips;
    Some high-end models come with “adsorption texture” design;
    Anti-skid rubber mat cloth can also be laid underneath to increase friction.
    Advantages: no need to damage the ground, quick deployment, suitable for rental/temporary projects.
  5. Fixing suggestions for different terrains
    Ground type Recommended fixing method Special instructions
    Mud/grass Pin connection + ground nail anchoring Must prevent the pad from sinking or sliding
    Cement ground Pin connection + anti-slip shading design Avoid strong ground nails to damage the ground
    Asphalt road Pin connection + rubber mat Try not to use nails to prevent deformation in hot weather
    Sand/slope Ground nail anchoring + heavy-load edge pressing/mechanical top pressing It is easier to slide, and the edge stability needs to be strengthened
    Indoor venue Pin connection + limit edge strip/rubber strip Protect the ground, anti-slip, reusable
  6. Precautions
    Align the connection hole before pinning to avoid violent operation to damage the pad;
    Check whether the connector is loose after using it for a period of time;
    When disassembling, the connectors should be removed one by one to prevent damage to the corners;
    If heavy machinery is used to press the edge as an auxiliary fixation, be careful to avoid cutting or crushing the edge.
