what are outrigger pads used for?

Outrigger pad is a high-strength load-bearing pad placed at the bottom of the outrigger of heavy vehicles such as cranes, concrete pump trucks, and fire trucks. Its main purpose is to disperse the pressure of the outrigger, protect the ground, and improve the safety of operations.
The main uses of outrigger pads are as follows:

crane pad
  1. Disperse pressure and prevent sinking into the ground
    When the outrigger of the crane directly contacts the ground, the load per unit area can reach tens of tons or even hundreds of tons, which can easily cause the ground to crack and sink.
    After using the outrigger pad, the pressure of the outrigger is dispersed to a larger area, reducing the pressure per unit area. It is suitable for:
    Land
    Grass
    Asphalt
    Concrete
    Sand
  2. Protect the ground
    Effectively avoid direct damage to the ground by the outrigger, especially suitable for delicate places such as gardens, urban roads, parks, playgrounds, and decoration sites.
    Prevent:
    Cracks in floor tiles/floors
    Crushing of lawns
    Concaving of asphalt
  3. Improve the safety of lifting operations
    The pad provides stable support to prevent the outrigger from slipping, tilting, and local settlement;
    Ensure that the entire equipment remains horizontal and stable during hoisting operations to prevent tipping accidents.
  4. Adapt to various complex terrains
    In muddy, sandy, snowy, uneven ground and other environments, the outrigger pads can enhance ground adhesion;
    Some high-grade pads also have anti-skid patterns and rubber bottom layers to increase friction.
  5. Easy to carry and reuse
    Polymer pads (such as UHMWPE boards) are light and durable, making it easy for workers to quickly lay and carry them;
    Compared with wood and steel plates, they are more water-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and non-conductive, with a long life and low maintenance costs.
